It's A Bird's Life

A story about Shelley Duval, her husband and their birds is divided into 4 chapters, each about 20 pages long. You get one graphic per page and then click on the bird's right wing to continue to the next page. The story moves VERY SLOWLY and I couldn't go through the entire thing. I asked Kristina if she had ever made it to the end and she had not. The neat thing about the story is the "hyperlinks." Kids can click on these links after the story page is read and get short descriptions of the highlighted phrases. Just like us big "kids!" * Characters - Learn about 10 different birds. A short description is given by the bird so you'll learn all about the different personalities birds can have. They are cleverly written and full of humor. * Games -- Have fun playing 5 different games: -Shell game. Kristina's favorite. The old peanut under the shell game is now online! But try to follow which shell the nut is hiding under here! You have complete control over flips and speed and at the fastest, you can only guess where that peanut is! -Connect the dots. Another neat game to help little ones learn their numbers. Simply click on the numbers in the right order and the dots are automatically connected. The numbers go up into the 20s most times. When they're finished with a picture, the outline is filled in and most often, it's (you guessed it!) a bird! -- Object search. Kristina said this one is easy! And it was. See an item and then find it in the picture. For a 6 year old this was too easy and a little boring. For younger kids, they would delight doing this activity. - Puzzles. Online jigsaw puzzles of interesting things and places. Kids drag the pieces one by one and place them in the correct positions. The puzzles we worked on were 12 pieces and mildly challenging to a 6 year old. She had fun doing them though, and even her puzzle addicted mother kept going in this section a while. - Coloring book. Color different birds using a small palette of colors. Kids can mix colors together by adding them to the bird. The neatest thing of all here is the rainbow effect. After coloring in the bird with different colors, click on the rainbow and see how the colors cycle through the bird. Too cool! * Singalongs -- Learn 11 songs by clicking on the title and reading the words as the songs are sung with musical accompaniment. Fun graphics are included, although there's very little animation. Most of the songs are about birds or dogs, but there very cute. Check out the last one, Bird's of a Feather -- Kristina's and my favorite song!
