700 Education
This program is based on the discovery, in 1974, of the ceramic warriors, chariots and horses of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang Di. The program contains color photographs, video clips, audio commentary, text and maps which describe that period of China's history. The topics listed in the contents include the discovery of the ceramic army, the museum built over the excavation, the Great wall and various navigational tools such as maps, image index, timeline, chronology, thumbnails and a section called 'Ask the experts'. Review: For students of ancient history this program provides an excellent introduction to a particular period of Chinese history, 273 BC to 206 BC, the period when China moved from separate warring states to a unified empire under Qin Shi Huang Di. It could also be of value for students of Chinese culture and language, since audio commentary can be in Chinese if desired, and the glossary has Chinese characters and audio pronunciation of major topics. Art students will find the full-screen photographs of the soldiers and horses of interest as examples of particular styles of ceramic sculpture. All will enjoy learning about one of the most remarkable archaeological finds of the century, the discovery of over 7000 ceramic warriors and horses arranged in military formation.
